At some point towards the end of last year, I stopped drawing. I was frustrated with my class - the instructor was a bundle of everything my pedagogy professors had taught me not to do - and I was frustrated with drawing in general - things weren’t coming out right.
I did a couple of sketches while I was in Seattle. One of them was of this sushi restaurant where I was told to stop taking pictures of things. I could take pictures of people, but not things. I’m sure it would upset them to know that I have a detailed drawing of their sushi conveyor belt. Idiots. Don’t make rules that are easy to get around. The other drawing of a tree ornament. Both were okay but not spectacular or anything.
Recently, I’ve been feeling the urge to draw again. And then I saw this post (I especially love the last two drawings) at By Danny Gregory at about the same time that Nicci posted an ink and watercolour ATC swap over at Swap-Bot. It was time to get back in the saddle.
These two ATCs are the initial results. I sat down with a book of copyright-free botanical images and found several that I liked. I’m particularly happy with the lily ATC because it didn’t look like it was going to turn out but then, all of the sudden, it looked like a lily. Phew!
